Monday Update

I’ll be packing up my work and taking it all with me to Texas for a weeklong family visit.  To make working while away from home and my trusted Mac Mini possible, we got a new MacBook.  I feel like a spoiled kid, we now each have our own desktop Macs and a complimentary laptop to share between us when we need to work away from home , which is often enough that I know little MacBook will be earning his keep.

So far I’ve discovered that having a laptop is a bit dangerous…  I’m not talking about how hot they get, the possibility that I might drop or spill something on this new thing that’s worth more than the car I drive, or even the backgammon game that I’m getting twitchey for…

No, I’m talking about the siren call to work all night.  It’s so quiet and peaceful at night, but working at my desk eventually get’s tiresome and I leave my work behind to get ready for bed and watch a bit of teevee.  Working at the laptop in the living room, all propped up against pillows, pattern notes and yarn strewn about, tivo serving up countless episodes of News Radio…  the next thing a girl knows it’s 3am and then the next thing it’s 6am!

And yeah, I’ve already started scheming up a great laptop sleeve…  sewn though, not crocheted or knitted.  If I stay up all night maybe I can get it made in time for the trip….

I think I’ll now go and set an alarm to remind me to break and go to sleep at midnight.

Note:  I’m writing this entry from the Mini, because Mini is more laid back.  She insists I take regular breaks to forage for candy and such.

Weather.com says “97 feels like 101″

This is all anyone in our household feels good for right now:

My sticky miserable sweaty waiting for handyman to fix the kitchen sink kind of day was instantly cheered by the smile on the puddle of fur.

I think this pose is worthy of Cute Overload, for more pics see my flickr.

Today’s Crochet Work Brought to You by Popsicles!

It’s hot out, it’s hot in. It’s hot everywhere. We usually get a nice enough breeze to make living without air conditioning sorta acceptable. Or perhaps, I should say that the breeze is so pleasant when it hits you that you appreciate it more than if you weren’t already hot.

No real breeze today though. I’m hoping today’s mugginess leads to a bit of real rain. Meanwhile, I fight the lethargy inducing warmth the best I can:

Popsicles! Eat a popsicle and drink a glass of very cold water. Somehow pairing the two helps cool me down more.

Cold Water! I fill the bath tub with a few inches of cold water and sit on the edge of the tub with my feet in the water. When it’s really hot I sit in the cold water. I like this better than a shower because I can sit there in the cooling water and read or do sudoku puzzles.

Yep, thanks to that regimen I am able to stay cool and alert enough to work on crochet stuff so that one day someone will enjoy my work and crochet one of my designs.

Stay cool everybody!

Totally Misleading Picture

I love how photos can capture a moment of tranquility in a room full of messy, messy chaos. I spent the last week camped out in the living room and blazing through projects that were due “right away”. And I really was camped out, I even slept in that room because I worked until I was falling asleep with hook in hand, took a nap, woke up and went right back to work. Luckily I love what I do. I had many moments of joy within the chaos and though rushed pieces tend to not hold all the perfection and such of other pieces, I think I made some cool things. This work binge has me invigorated for more. But first I’ve gotta do some housework…. don’t let the cozy picture fool you, it’s a mess in here!
